Apple 17 inch MacBook Pro to go unibody, lose removable battery
9 to 5 Mac - Apple Intelligence —
Our folks in Asia are at it again with some pretty startling news. The 17 inch MacBook Pro is going Unibody like the 13 inch and 15 inch models. That, in itself isn't really that big a deal, it was expected really. The news is that Apple is making a super slim battery pack for the 17 inch MacBook Pros that will last much longer than current models. Additionally, you won't be able to remove said battery pack. It will be inside the machine, just like iPods and iPhones. Removal will not be able to be done by most users.
Those of us with three year old ...

Rumors fuel hopes for unibody 17-inch MacBook Pro
AppleInsider —
By Aidan Malley Published: 11:45 AM EST Last-minute claims would have Apple launching an update to its largest MacBook Pro model as early as Macworld -- and potentially with a crucial change to the computer's battery. Claiming to have Asian sources, 9 to 5 Mac alleges that a 17-inch MacBook Pro with the sturdier, unibody aluminum design is believed due at the trade event, whose show floor opens Tuesday. While a major revision of Apple's flagship portable has long been expected, the late rumor asserts that the company won't use the same panel-covered battery layout as with the 13-inch MacBook and 15-inch MacBook Pro. ...

RUMOR: Apple’s new 17-inch MacBook Pro to go unibody with non-removable extended-life battery Sunday, January 04, 2009 - 11:55 AM EST "The 17-inch MacBook Pro is going Unibody, like the 13-inch and 15-inch models. That, in itself isn't really that big of a deal; it was widely expected. The big news is that Apple is making a super slim battery pack for the 17-inch MacBook Pros that will last much longer than current models. However, you won't be able to remove the battery pack. Rumor: 17-inch Apple MacBook Pro Finally Receiving Update, Better Battery [Rumor]
Gizmodo —
Word from Asia today is that the 17-inch MacBook Pro, which conspicuously lacked the aluminum update its smaller brethren and cousins received earlier this year, will finally receive its refresh at MacWorld—with a twist. The big news isn't the aluminum unibody construction—it's that the portable rig is getting a slimmer, more efficient battery. But, and this is a big (unconfirmed) but, the battery will apparently be inaccessible, a la the iPhone and iPod. What's the deal with that? Expect more at MacWorld, which may or may not have big or small ...
Rumor: 17-inch MacBook Pro going unibody, no replaceable battery
jkOnTheRun —
... is due to lack of space. That’s certainly not true of the big 17-incher so I can’t believe that Apple would take the ability to augment battery life away from the mobile worker by fixing the battery in place like the iPhone. The rumor also states that Apple is going with a super new battery technology that will last much longer than those in the other MacBooks. Even so I will only have one word for the fixed battery rumor should it come to pass: FAIL.

17-inch unibody MacBook Pro with non-removable battery rumored for Macworld
Engadget —
9to5Mac is reporting that a unibody, 17-inch MacBook Pro will be announced at Macworld, following in the footsteps of the previously released unibody 13 and 15-inchers. The rumor, backed up by some "whisperers" at Macrumors, isn't really an earth-shattering surprise -- though the ...
Rumor: Unibody 17-inch MacBook Pro in the works
CNET News - Apple —
... uses the Nvidia 9400M graphics processor, and would give the Mini a boost in graphics processing power over the Intel integrated chipsets it currently uses. New Mac Minis are high on the list of systems expected to arrive at Macworld 2009 . The Mac Mini has been the subject of much speculation about its future this year after it appeared the systems were headed out to pasture, but it appears Apple will bring it around for another go . Another unconfirmed rumor has Apple phasing out the 13-inch plastic MacBook.
Rumor: Unibody 17 inch MacBook Pro
The Unofficial Apple Weblog (TUAW) —
Filed under: Macworld, Hardware, Rumors, Macbook ProBoth 9to5Mac and AppleInsider are reporting on rumors that a 17-inch, unibody MacBook Pro will debut at this week's Macworld Expo. Most interesting is the rumor about the machine's battery. Specifically, the alleged laptop's battery would be non-removable, very slim (consider the MacBook Air's battery) and able to run "...much longer" than the current model. The announcement of a new 17 inch MacBook Pro wouldn't be a very big surprise, but a non-removable battery would. People like removable batteries for obvious ...
Rumor: MacBook Pro 17" with a fixed battery, mini with FW800
Infinite Loop —
[image] As everyone in the Apple sphere gears up for Macworld 2009 ( Apple's last, it seems ), the rumor machine is firing on all cylinders. The latest rumors indicate Apple will unveil a redesigned 17" MacBook Pro and a Mac mini, but some of the details might be surprising. When Apple launched the new unibody MacBook and 15" MacBook Pro last October , the 17" MacBook Pro got left out of the party. Apple said that an update for that model was in the works for a later date, and it's not the least bit surprising that the company would introduce the machine at Macworld Expo. But what might be downright shocking is ...

Digital Daily —
Some last minute grist for the Macworld rumor mill: Word on the street, has it that Tuesday’s Macworld keynote address will see the introduction of the “17 MacBook Pro that was omitted from Apple’s (AAPL) Oct. 2008 laptop event. As with the machines introduced on that day, the “17 MacBook Pro will feature a precision aluminum unibody chassis and a multi-touch glass trackpad. But it’s expected to feature something else as well: a fixed internal battery, not unlike the one in the MacBook Air.
While the notion of a fixed power source in a pro laptop will almost certainly ...

The latest centre around the 17″ MacBook Pro, which will apparently not only now come in an aluminium unibody enclosure, and possibly also boast a quad-core CPU, but will feature a super-thin, non-removable, extra-long-lasting battery. A Silver-Zinc battery, no less. Man, 2009 already feels just like the future. ...

Frankly we like to see a little more hardware at events but the 17 inch MacBook was pretty close to our description last week. The $50 Matte version should make people both happy and sad. We'd be lying if we said we didn't want one...with 8Gb (will we be able to up our smaller MacBooks to 8Gb)?
iLife and iWork are both looking pretty exciting. iWork.com is pretty close to what we envisaged. There were lots of gray areas where we missed some stuff but we think we got the major gist of it across. GarageBand learn-to-play is exactly what we ...
Macworld Rumor Aftermath: What We Know Now
MacBlogz - One Stop Apple News —
... . It has adopted the unibody design and also brings with it some major innovations in battery life. When Apple first unveiled the new unibody notebooks back in October, early speculation pointed towards a Macworld ‘09 release. This prediction was looked at as relatively natural, and Apple even murmured a few notes pointing to a “few month” delay. As Macworld grew near, 9to5mac was first to announce anything noticeably major surrounding changes to the 17″ Macbook Pro. They specifically pointed to the embedded non-user replaceable battery, and a ...
