First update for 2.0 is out!
Planet iPhones — iTunes published an update for 2.0 a couple of hours ago. Reports has it that the sluggish behaviour some encountered in Contacts and the Camera app are fixed! Apples official line in the update contents sticks to the usual "Bugfixes". No word yet from the iPhone Dev Team about an update for their Pwnage tool, so those of us with pwned iPhones will have to wait a little before going at it again!

Firmware 2.0.1 Makes iPhone 3G Locked for Good?
iPhone Buzz — ... If you've updated already, you may have noticed that you lost access to any jailbroken apps you may have had. But don't sweat it. The DevTeam is on it. However, the iPhone 3G's baseband has also been updated making it a possibility that once the new Pwnage Tool comes out, you may be out of luck.  ...

PwnageTool 2.0.2 To Be Released Today
Touch Podium — ... newer baseband. Second, and as usual this is only for Mac; we Windows users still have to wait for cmw to finish WinPwn 2.5, which will presumably incorporate PwnageTool 2.0.2 when it does finally get released; the last WinPwn blog entry is dated July 31st, which means he hasn’t posted daily build screenies like he wanted to — but could also mean he’s been hard at work and hopefully close to a release. We can plz has WinPwn soon? (via iPhone Dev blog)

Easier iPhone jailbreak with QuickPwn
HardMac.com — The Devteam has just released a beta version of QuickPwn, a jailbreaking software for our beloved iPhones and other iPod Touch. While SIM unlocking does not seem to be dealt with (note that 3G iPhones are still not unlockable), it allows much easier jailbreak than with PWNage tool, the custom firmware flashing tool that has put this Russia based team under the spotlight. The current beta only works on Windows but a Mac version is reportedly in the pipeline. Give it a second thought before rushing to jailbreak your Precious, though: since firmware 2.0 and ...

What to do with an old iPhone
Macworld — ... and you’ll find that original 8GB iPhones are going for between $350 and $450. Examine those listings carefully and you’ll see that these phones are unlocked by one method or another. Unlocking an iPhone breaks your license agreement with Apple and AT&T but this hasn’t deterred people from using utilities such as PwnageTool to do the job. Once unlocked, the iPhone can be used with any carrier—in this country or overseas. The danger of unlocking is that a future update to the iPhone’s software could render the phone non-functional. The site is riddled with ads, pop-ups, and ways to get a "free" iPhone by signing up for random sites. You are advised to not go to any site that is a fake due to the simple fact that you have no idea what they are giving you to download. Quickpwn.com is in NO way affiliated with the Dev Team. MacBytes.com — ... developers whose applications were abruptly removed and banned from the App Store without any violations of the terms of service. This is all unfortunate news for the iPhone platform end-users.'" But while Netshare isn't available, a new app called iPhoneModem has emerged to fill its place. iPhoneModem is conceptually similar to NetShare in that a secure SSH connection is established between your iPhone and your computer via an ad-hoc WiFi network, but unlike NetShare you'll need to jailbreak your iPhone (2G and 3G) and install a small utility on your Mac. Hacker Explains Solution for iPhone Screenshot Privacy Leak
Wired: Gadget Lab — ... Granted, fixing the problem requires hacking -- or "Jailbreaking," as the community calls it -- your iPhone yourself. (Steps on that procedure can be found at the iPhone DevTeam blog.) And as you might imagine, tampering with that effect will make things less pretty: When resuming an application, you'll get the default screen, since you'll no longer have a cache. For example, when re-launching your Mail application it will always zoom to the front and appear as though it's empty, but after the application fully resumes it'll ...

Memo to Apple re Jailbreaking: You Win; I Give Up
The Mac Observer — ... fix here is to wait for the release of updated versions of the relevant jailbreak software. In some cases, the developers give up, meaning that the updated version will never appear. Which means you are out of luck. Jailbreak That ‘Will Jailbreak Them All’ Coming Soon from GeoHot?

Just Another iPhone Blog — ... custom .ipsw created by PwnageTool.  (However, if you ran blackra1n on a 3G or 3GS that means you updated to stock 3.1.x, and the carrier unlock is now out of reach.  We’ll continue to work on a carrier unlock for the latest basebands, but the timeframe for such an unlock is unknowable.) Note: If you use internet tethering on a carrier that doesn’t officially support it, you’ll lose it by going to 3.1.x.  Stay back at 3.0 until a hack for that is developed.
