Engadget —
... Steve Jobs, presumably speaking from a hyperbaric chamber where he's being nourished with an infusion of liquified developer-souls before his next public appearance, had a few interesting tidbits about the AppStore for the Wall Street Journal this morning. Namely, users have downloaded some 60 million programs for the iPhone representing sales of about $30 million since the launch last month -- a 30/70 revenue split between Apple and developers, respectively. "The thing's going to crest a half billion soon," Jobs added, "I've never seen anything like this in ...

iPhone App Store: Big Success
Byte of the Apple - BusinessWeek —
iPhone App Store: Big Success Posted by: Arik Hesseldahl on August 11 I admit it. I was ambivalent about the iPhone the first time around. It was beautiful and fun, and intriguing at first, but once I had tried out everything it could do, I got bored with it. I couldn’t add anything to it to make it do more things. Now I have a completely different view. I’ve been alternating between an iPhone 3G and an iPod touch and have been absolutely unable to put them down. The reason? The iTunes App Store. There’s always something new and interesting to install on the device and play around with, and a lot of the time, they’re free. My four very favorite iPhone Apps are the ...

Vetting the App Store approval process
Macworld —
The App Store has been with us for a month now, and, by many measures, it’s a roaring success. Apple told the Wall Street Journal that it averages around $1 million a day in iPhone application sales , for a grand total of around $30 million in the App Store’s first month of existence. (Apple keeps only 30 percent of that under its revenue-sharing agreement with app developers, but that's still a nice chunk of change.) Shoppers have plenty of choices—the ...

Estimating Apple iPhone App Sales So Far: $50-$100 Million In Revenue (AAPL)
Silicon Alley Insider —
Apple's (AAPL) iPhone and iPod touch customers have downloaded some 300 million software apps since Apple started selling them in July. We estimate that Apple has booked $50 million to $100 million in revenue so from those sales.
Regardless, it's couch change for Apple, which topped $32 billion in sales last fiscal year.
More important is that Apple's app platform is still far ahead of its competition. And we think it's doing its real job, too: Helping Apple sell more iPhones and iPod touches, which are worth much, much more to Apple's top and bottom lines.
How'd we get $50 million to $100 million?

About Those iPhone App Store Revenue Numbers
TechCrunch —
I don’t think it’s a stretch to say that Apple’s App Store has been more successful that even Apple ever imagined. It entered a market that had been completely controlled by carriers and handed the keys over to third-party developers to make their own apps. Just over nine months later, over 35,000 of those apps had been made which have been downloaded over a billion times. So it’s surprising when you see numbers like the ones Lightspeed Venture Partners published yesterday, estimating that Apple had made only somewhere between $20 and $45 million dollars in revenue off of the App Store. Surprising, until you dig deeper. ...
