Can you believe it? New Yorker cover done on iPhone app.
The Unofficial Apple Weblog (TUAW) —
Filed under: iPhone, Graphic Design, App Store, iPod touchLooking at the cover of the June 1 New Yorker Magazine it is pretty hard to believe that it was created with a US$4.99 app on an iPhone. The app is Brushes [App Store] and it allows painting on the iPhone /iPod touch screen using your fingers and a variety of brush styles. If you have a Mac, you can export your work at resolutions up to 1920x2880. The app also saves a record of your brushstrokes and other actions and can replay them on your Mac. The artist who did the New Yorker cover, Jorge Colombo, obviously has impressive talent. You can see some of his other ...

To date, his Brushes application has sold around 40,000 copies, which so many of his peers would consider a grand success. “Some developers are able to make hundreds of thousands of dollars doing this,” Sprang told the New York Times. “I’m not at their level. But I am able to make a living and support myself doing this, which is what I wanted to do.” Source: NYT Brushes is on sale now at $3.99 for a limited time. ...
Hurrah – Brushes App Gets a Big Boost from New Yorker Cover Stories
Just Another iPhone Blog —
Brushes app for iPhone I’m always happy to see stories about developers of great iPhone apps doing well out of their efforts – and this week we’ve got an excellent example of that. The New York Times reports that Steve Sprang, the developer of the Brushes app, has seen a bit of a sales bonanza this week following all the massive press coverage of The New Yorker magazine cover for June 1 being drawn entirely on an iPhone – and of course the artist used Brushes to do it. Even though I am a million miles away from being artistic enough to make good use of it, I’ve long been a big admirer of Brushes. My daughter has loved it since the first day she saw it ...

The above scene is one of many striking images created by photographer/impressionist artist Jorge Columbo. Columbo's artwork has grabbed the attention of media ...

The Unofficial Apple Weblog (TUAW) —
Filed under: Software, Cool tools, iPhone, App StoreWhen it comes to adventure and travel, who could possibly know more than National Geographic Adventure magazine? The magazine's website has regular features about techie toys and tools, so it was no surprise that blogger Steve Casimiro would write a post featuring his choices for the top twenty travel apps for iPhone. Some of his choices, such as HearPlanet, FlightTrack Pro, the Lonely Planet Phrasebooks, and World Customs [clicks open iTunes] aren't surprising, while others (Packing, Room) are interesting apps I wouldn't ...

Review: Pogo Sketch stylus for iPhone
Just Another iPhone Blog —
Pogo Sketch stylus I was really curious about the Pogo Sketch iPhone stylus when I first heard about it, so when I was offered the chance to review it by the Max Borges agency, the fact that it was the “hot pink” version of the product didn’t really register. That’s okay, though, because as long as I punch a live bear in the stomach every few days and stay unshaven, I can still feel like a man despite the fact that my dainty fingers are wrapped around a $15 aluminum stylus in a (surprisingly gorgeous) hot pink. A Stylus for a capacitive screen The iPhone has a capacitive touchscreen, which means it registers taps when your body’s electrical field distorts the charge on ...
