AppleInsider —
... , Verizon is now claimed by BusinessWeek to have been in discussions for at least six months to bring the two mystery devices to its network, one of which could be ready as early as the summer while both are reportedly in the prototype stage. The first is simply characterized as an "iPhone lite" and would be a physically smaller, thinner and feature-reduced version of Apple's distinctive handset. It would achieve the effect by using a system-on-a-chip -- a processor that combines its necessary graphics core, controllers and other components on a single chip package -- and ...

Apple prototyping "iPhone lite" and MacBook Mini / media pad for Verizon?
Engadget —
Hot on the heels of yesterday's reports of Apple and Verizon dealings comes some tantalizing, but still unconfirmed, new details from BusinessWeek. According to the publication, the gang in Cupertino has prototyped two devices for the carrier. The first one is a smaller, less expensive device that's been dubbed as "iPhone lite" by someone who's apparently seen it in person. The other is called a "media pad" (Joggler, anyone?) for music, photos, HD video, and placing calls over WiFi. Details are scant beyond that, and while that pad sounds a lot like ...

Apple Plants BizWeek Gadget Story To Turn Up Heat On AT&T?
Silicon Alley Insider —
Last night, BusinessWeek reported that Apple is working on two new wireless gadgets that could be powered by Verizon Wireless.
Could be a big scoop for BusinessWeek, which credits two veteran reporters with the story (and two others as helpers). Or could it be Apple planting facts to a trusted media outlet to put pressure on AT&T?
AT&T is trying to extend its exclusive deal to sell Apple's iPhone in the U.S., which ends next year, and Apple probably wants to negotiate more favorable terms, such as AT&T subsidizing the phone more, improving its often-flaky 3G network, or offering cheaper service plans. Having to deal with the possibility that arch rival Verizon could ...

Apple, Verizon and the iPhone LiTE
Digital Daily —
Ok. So maybe there’s something to these Apple (AAPL)/Verizon (VZ) rumors after all. Shadowy “people familiar with the matter” tell BusinessWeek the two companies are discussing a distribution deal that would see two new devices added to Verizon’s mobile devices line-up. The first: a sort of “iPhone lite” handset, the second a hi-definition media tablet. Apple is said to have prototypes of each and has been talking them up to Verizon for the better part of six months.
A couple thoughts: Odd, isn’t it, that we’ve seen two stories on an Apple/Verizon deal in as many days in two major news publications. They are presumably well-sourced and bullet-proof. Could be that “people familiar ...
Verizon and Apple: To be or not to be?
Macworld —
... no surprise that Apple wants to patch it up with stronger stuff. Who better than the nation’s self-proclaimed “largest 3G network” to fill the gap? Of course, matters are complicated by the exclusive deal that AT&T and Apple have supposedly struck, which takes the two companies through 2010 or 2012—accounts vary. It’s possible the terms of that deal have changed—recent stories have AT&T trying to get Apple to extend the contract —but it also lends credence to a recent story, published on Tuesday by BusinessWeek , that Apple’s shopping other devices to Verizon. ...
