TUAW goes hands-on with Rolando
The Unofficial Apple Weblog (TUAW) —
Filed under: Analysis / Opinion, Gaming, Apple, iPhone, iPod touch It's no secret that we've been looking forward to Rolando probably more than any other game on the App Store, and now that it's here, we can safely say it doesn't disappoint. From the beginning, Rolando has shown tons of potential as a completely original game that shows off just why mobile game developers should see the iPhone as a dream platform, and creator Simon Oliver has brought that potential to bear in an amazing puzzle/platformer. There's almost nothing ...
News: Mix: Imagination, Rolando, iFrogz sale, 12 Days
iLounge | All Things iPod, iPhone, iTunes and beyond —
Imagination Technologies Group has announced that Apple is purchasing 8.2 million new shares of the company, giving the iPod maker a 3.6% ownership interest. Imagination is known for its OpenGL ES-compliant PowerVR mobile GPU chips, and revealed alongside the stock announcement that Apple is a licensee of Imagination’s technology, suggesting that the company may be planning to use the PowerVR technology in future iPods and iPhones. This might also help to explain Apple’s acquisition of chipmaker P.A. Semi, which CEO Steve Jobs has said will build chips for future iPod and iPhone models. Ngmoco has released its anticipated game Rolando ...
SimCity For iPhone Falls Short, Rolando Rocks (AAPL)
Silicon Alley Insider —
... game.
The biggest problem: Because the iPhone app platform doesn't support background processing, you can't just leave SimCity running in the background and pop in and play with it from time to time, which is how we -- and, we assume, most people -- play it on a computer. (And even if it did, SimCity would probably make the rest of the phone slow as molasses.) Not EA's fault, but still their problem.
In short: Not yet worth the $10 we spent on it.
Rolando - Ngmoco and HandCircus - $10
Meanwhile, Rolando -- which we've ...
Article: iPhone Gems: Four Hyped Games and a Serious Editorial
iLounge | All Things iPod, iPhone, iTunes and beyond —
In recent weeks, Apple has intensified its efforts to position the iPhone and iPod touch as bona-fide game consoles, but owners of these devices know the score: thanks to control limitations and a wide range of developer issues, it’s very hard to find console-quality games in the App Store. This week, we looked at a bunch of titles that mimic, at least in part, past console game success stories: Ngmoco’s Rolando, Cobra Mobile’s Low Grav Racer, Namco’s I Love Katamari, and Source IT Software’s Zombie Mansion. Only one of these titles fully succeeds at offering a console gaming experience, and then, due to obvious polish that the other games here lack. [image] Read on for ...
The Only 10 Games Your iPhone Needs [IPhone Games]

... Rolando: This is a wonderful, cartoonish platformer that uses simple controls that are easy to learn but are used in increasingly complicated and challenging ways as the game progresses. You control a series of little balls—Rolandos—by tilting your iPhone and swiping up to jump. But you can control many of them at once, and there are also obstacles and switches you can manipulate. It's got a high degree of polish and will suck you in from the first level. $9.99 ...
