Set Your iPhone On Fire With Sonic Lighter
TheAppleBlog —
Today, Smule released a really cool (or hot, if you want to be go that route) app for the iPhone called Sonic Lighter.
Sonic Lighter is an iPhone-only app (sorry iPod touch users), that makes use of the accelerometer and sound to affect the flame it shows. Simply flick the flints on the screen to light the flame and then turn the iPhone from side to side to see how the flame reacts. Turn it too far and it will digitally burn the side of the screen…how 21st century. You can even run your finger through the flame and it will react accordingly. To put ...

Sonic Boom Makes a Firecracker Out of Your iPhone
TheAppleBlog —
Smule — of Sonic Lighter fame — launched their second app over the weekend, Sonic Boom. As you can probably imagine, it turns your iPhone into a virtual firecracker that can be lit, either with your finger (as a virtual match that you actually have to strike to ignite) or a second iPhone running Sonic Lighter.
Sonic Boom, like its sister app, is more gimmicky than anything else and is hardly feature intensive. You can change the size of the firecracker or the fuse, slow down the explosion, and wrap your stick with a picture from your ...

[image] Had you noticed that Sonic Lighter (by Smule ) was recently updated to be relevant to the pending presidential election? That’s right — a simple, silly, virtual lighter, now has the capability to give you first hand political polling results from around the world, for the two lead presidential candidates. Select your party preference, light up, and view the globe to see how everyone else is voting (or would vote if they were American). The location data from Smule’s applications can be uploaded (with your permission of course) to their servers for real time processing. The results are ...
Turn Your iPhone into an Ocarina
Cult of Mac —
... Today, Stanford professor Dr. Ge Wang and his company, Smule, introduced Ocarina, the first and only app that transforms the iPhone into an expressive musical wind instrument.
The app synthesizes sound in real-time, just like a regular instrument, based on actual gestures including wind input, tilt, and finger placement over the four holes overlaid on the multi-touch pad. Unlike other iPhone audio apps, the sound is not pre-compiled but is generated by the notes, gestures and nuance of the individual ...

Filed under: Analysis / Opinion, Humor, Software, Developer, iPhone, App Store, iPod touchIt's probably time for me to lay off of Smule -- I've said that their Ocarina app might be the silliest musical app in the App Store, but we have a new winner: Cat Piano is just plain loony: a piano made up of cats meowing, like those old Christmas recordings, but playable. There are a few different cat sounds to play (from "Furball" to "Housecat"), and even a regular piano if you just want to tickle the ...
