... iPhone Dev Team has announced that they’ve managed to unlock the iPhone 3G, and are aiming to release a user-friendly application - which is codenamed ‘yellowsn0w’ - on New Year’s Eve.
The unlock method will require baseband 2.11.07 or earlier (I believe I saw somewhere recently that this is the baseband used on iPhone 2.0 firmware, but can’t find the reference right now) - so it will not work on the very latest iPhone firmware.
