Unmanned Car Uses iPhone, Cameras, and Lasers to Travel, Kill Grannies [IPhone]
Gizmodo —
Sometimes in this magic land of the intarwerbs, fantasy becomes reality. Apparently, this is one of them: A team at the Freie University in Berlin have actually rigged a car so it can be fully controlled with an iPhone. There are not a lot of details except what you can see in the video. The GPS- and Wi-Fi-equipped Spirit of Berlin—as they called the car—uses drive-by-wire controls, with mechanic parts to operate the pedals. On its top, there are video cameras and pewpewtastic laser 3D sensors. The iPhone connects to the car using Wi-Fi, transmitting acceleration data to the ...

Earlier this week, news of iDriver hit the Internet. In case you missed it, it's an app that was developed by computer science researchers at Berlin's Free University to drive a modified minivan, the "Spirit of Berlin." Steering, break and accelleration commands are sent over Wi-Fi. In the demo video, researchers are driving it around an airport for testing. I'd really like a turn.
Of course, this isn't the first iPhone-controlled vehicle we've seen. Here's a video ...
Remote-control car for grown-ups
MacBytes.com —
Remote-control car for grown-ups By JAEDENE HUDSON - SMH In a recent US Military run competition, yet another iPhone 'app' was developed. Just when you thought you'd seen every iPhone application possible, an amazing automotive app raises its head. German university researchers have released a clip showing a vehicle being driven remotely using one of the clever phones. We're not talking a model vehicle but a full-sized passenger van. While the iPhone controlled car has been under development for some time (it was created in part to contest a US military driverless car challenge) researchers have just recently published images of it in action on YouTube. The ...

Yesterday, I reported that there are now over 100,000 apps on the iPhone. Suffice it to say that there is a heck of a lot that you can do with an iPhone, making it useful throughout the day. With this in mind, I found it interesting that Om Malik reported this week on a study of the increasing number of iPhone addicts, with "addict" defined ...
