Holographic Illusion on Your iPhone, for Real this Time
iSmashPhone —
A while back, we did a post about holographic text messages viewed on iPhone. It turned out that it was a digitally-altered video for Google's new "Mobile Phone Tricks" contest featured on YouTube.

iHologram looks to provide minutes of extreme coolness

I’m not sure what you are supposed to do with this, but I know I want it. iHologram - iPhone application from David OReilly on Vimeo . iHologram by David O’Reilly is one of the coolest useless apps I have seen.“The application works by assuming a constant viewing angle (35-45 degrees), typical for when the device is placed on a tabletop. The 3d scene’s perspective is then warped using anamorphic perspective, making the object appear to jump off the screen.” I’m not sure how much “replay value” this has, although I said the same thing about Koi Pond . But certainly, the underlying technology shown here in iHologram, if ...
Cool IPhone Animation Creates 3D Illusion
Wired: Gadget Lab —
David OReilly has taken iPhone-app coding beyond what was imaginable by
creating a 3D hologram that appears to jump off the handset's screen.
The animation assumes a 35- to 45-degree viewing angle, so with the
iPhone placed on a desktop, the 3D scene appears to be jumping out. And
then you can rotate the phone and the animation will follow your
perspective like a real 3D object.
OReilly said he uses a method called anamorphosis to create the 3D
perspective -- the same technique used in Hans Halbein's painting The
Ambassadors -- only the ...
3D App Converts iPhone into Window to Alternative World [Magic]
Gizmodo —
If you liked Johnny Chung Lee's Wii headtracking tricks you will love iHologram, an stunning iPhone app that makes the screen look like a window to a real, parallel dimension. While it seems like magic, it uses anamorphosis, a very simple painting technique that has been used by old masters since the 15th century, mixed with the technology in the JesusPhone. Created by David OReilly, iHologram combines anamorphosis and the iPhone's gyroscopes to achieve this awesome visual magic trick. Anamorphosis is a way to draw things distorted so, while watched at a certain angle, they pop out of the ...
Beautiful Hoax iPhone App: iHologram
Cult of Mac —
iHologram - iPhone application from David OReilly on Vimeo.
The above video, “iHologram,” by animator David O’Reilly, is a fake. The awesome idea of using the accelerometers in the iPhone to manipulate a real-time animation is a great idea, and might even be possible in the right hands. But the video was made by pre-rendering the clip and then moving the iPod touch in time to show the right orientation.
O’Reilly explains:
The iHologram app was not real. It was an illustration of an idea I had which I believe ...
iHologram 3D App makes a sweet 3D image on iPhone/iPod Touch
9 to 5 Mac - Apple Intelligence —
iHologram - iPhone application from David OReilly
The application works by assuming a constant viewing angle (35-45 degrees), typical for when the device is placed on a tabletop. The 3d scene’s perspective is warped using anamorphosis, the same technique used in Hans Holbein’s painting The Ambassadors. This application does the exact same but updates dynamically.
