What's the deal with this commercial? No, seriously.
MacUser —
When we first heard that Microsoft was prepping an ad campaign starring Bill Gates and Jerry Seinfeld I was cautiously optimistic. Gates has a good sense of humor about himself, and Jerry might not be your cup of tea but he can be pretty funny now and again. The first ad has hit TV screens across the nation and... I don't think I even have words for it.
I'm assuming they were going for the 'Seinfeldian' commercial about nothing. As you can see from the video above, Jerry is walking through the mall and he sees Bill trying on some shoes at a discount ...
Microsoft airs first Seinfeld ad for Windows
MacNN | The Macintosh News Network —
[image] Microsoft tonight aired the first of its widely reported Jerry Seinfeld ads meant to restore awareness of Windows and improve Vista's poor reputation. The one minute, thirty-second segment conspicuously avoids any direct descriptions of Windows or attacks against rivals such as Apple; instead, it focuses on a chance meeting between Seinfeld and former Microsoft chief Bill Gates at a shoe store with a comedic conversation reminiscent of Seinfeld's own routines and TV show. The only mention of Windows appears near the end of the segment, when Seinfeld asks if Microsoft is working on something to make ...
Microsoft’s first Seinfeld ad a bigger disaster than the Hindenburg
Macenstein —
You can’t buy this kind of chemistry. Actually, i guess you can, which is likely the problem here. Suddenly I am not all that worried about the Seinfeld/Bill Gates Microsoft ad campaign meant to counter Apple’s Get A Mac campaign. I don’t know whether I am supposed to want to buy Clown shoes or Vista, but after watching this, I want both about the same amount. Thanks to faithful Macenstein reader Jester for the link!
Video: Microsoft Airs First “Jerry Seinfeld - Windows” Commercial; Rips Off Apple
MacBlogz - One Stop Apple News —
In response to Apple’s cut-throat “Get-a-Mac” ads, Microsoft announced that it was planning a huge $300 million dollar ad blitz, beginning with commercials set to star actor/comedian, and known Mac user Jerry Seinfeld. Tonight they aired the first commercial in the “Seinfeld-Windows” campaign.
The ad begins with Seinfeld walking through a mall, when he spots Bill Gates inside a discount shoe store. After talking with Bill for a while and helping him find the right pair of shoes, they get to the computer talk. Seinfeld asks Gates, [about Microsoft] “will ...

Windows ad featuring Jerry Seinfield airs
TheAppleBlog —
Tonight Microsoft aired its first ad featuring Jerry Seinfield. The ad (including Seinfield) is part of a new $300 million ad campaign Microsoft has put together to try and breathe new life in to the Windows operating system.
The 90 second ad spot is compromised mainly of shoe-banter between Bill Gates and Jerry Seinfield in a Shoe Carnival where Gates is a “platinum member.”
Interestingly enough, only 20 of the 90 seconds really have anything to do with Microsoft or Windows and of those 20 seconds, no time is spent actually touting much about Windows except that it is “The Future” ...
The Easiest 10 Million Bucks Ever Made
Mac Soda —
Jerry didn't like the ad either...
This is ridiculous. After all the hype (at least to me… I love Seinfeld), Microsoft managed to take the funniest guy of all time, place him with the least funniest guy of all time, and create an advertisement that not only made no sense, but ...
VIDEO: Microsoft’s answer to “Get a Mac” — did Bill Gates just wiggle his butt at me?
Apple Gazette —
I want you to watch this video before we continue…
Did you watch it? Ok…SO…let’s talk about THAT. I’m not real sure I’m ever going to be able to forgive my good buddy Dr. Macenstein for sending me that link.
Microsoft has launched a $300 Million dollar ad campaign featuring Bill Gates and Jerry Seinfeld to combat the popular “Get a Mac” ads that spend a large portion of their time bad mouthing Vista.
These new ads are designed to be funny, and make Microsoft more hip. The ad you ...
Seinfeld's First Microsoft Commercial: Not Funny
Silicon Alley Insider —
Looks like skepticism was the right reaction when Microsoft announced it was hiring Jerry Seinfeld as its new $10 million pitchman. Seinfeld's first commercial starring Bill Gates is out -- shot in a mall shoe store -- and it's not going to help Microsoft look any cooler: ...
Seinfeld's First Microsoft Commercial: Awkward, Not Funny

Microsoft ad- let them eat cake

I saw the new TV ad that Microsoft produced with Jerry Seinfeld and Bill Gates. It made me want to buy a new pair of shoes. And eat some cake.
Microsoft calling up Gurus to take on Apple's Geniuses
AppleInsider —
By Aidan Malley Published: 06:25 PM EST As part of its efforts to shore up Windows Vista's battered reputation, Microsoft has revealed plans for retail helpers that bear a strong resemblance to Apple's Genius Bar staff. Although they won't be fixing existing users' computers, the new staff will have the same ability as Apple's Genius Bar and Specialists to address questions customers might have about PCs they buy or to demonstrate the integration between Vista and Microsoft's other products, such as Windows Mobile or its Windows Live suite of dedicated and web apps. Microsoft's general manager of corporate ...
Microsoft Attempts to Resurrect Popular Seinfeld Sitcom
Mac|Life all RSS Feed —
[image] In an effort to coerce the public into believing that Windows Vista really wasn’t a failure, Microsoft released a series of ads featuring the illustrious, and hilarious, Jerry Seinfeld with hopes that the commercials would restore the faith of the non-believers (who may have moved on to better things—like the Church of Apple). The 90-second clip makes no mention of Vista’s features, and the segment resembles a scene from a sitcom rather than a commercial advertisement. In the clip, Seinfeld discovers Bill Gates trying on leather shoes at a discount shoe store. Seinfeld joins the former-CEO for some shoe-shopping fun, ...
Vista, It Is like a New Pair of Shoes!
HardMac.com —
Hereafter is the famous Microsoft ads featuring Jerry Seinfeld and Bill Gates, aiming to promote Windows Vista:
In summary, Seinfeld explain to Gates that one needs some time to feel comfortable in brand news shoes... kind of metaphor to explain that Vista users should try harder to like this new OS before dumping it and moving backwards to XP.
When browsing the web, this ads seems to be massively criticized, and several jokes are already circulating... if Microsoft was expecting the web to react about this ads, it is a success, however, not sure ...
The Simple Life: Gates and Seinfeld, the Hilton and Ritchie of Tech
Digital Daily —
The appeal of FOX’s reality show The Simple Life may have eluded you and I, but it’s clearly struck a chord with Microsoft and its new ad agency Crispin Porter + Bogusky which seems to view Microsoft chairman Bill Gates and comedian Jerry Seinfeld as the Paris Hilton and Nicole Richie of tech. To wit, “New Family” the the second spot in the CP+B-produced campaign for Microsoft, which features Gates and Seinfeld and Microsoft moving in with a family of “real people” and connecting with them.
Like the first ad in the ...
Apple and Microsoft Snipe in Ad Campaigns
TidBITS: Mac News for the Rest of Us —
Since 2006, Apple's "Get a Mac" ad campaign featuring Justin Long as a relaxed, hip Mac and John Hodgman as a stuffy, stressed-out PC have poked fun at the PC industry and Windows in particular. For years, Microsoft ignored the campaign, but in September 2008, Microsoft launched what is reportedly a $300 million ad campaign aimed at, to quote the internal Microsoft email about the campaign, telling "the story of how Windows enables a billion people around the globe to do more with their lives today."
As "an icebreaker to reintroduce Microsoft to viewers in a consumer context," Microsoft made a set of ads ...
Ad Math Doesn't Make Sense
The Mac Lawyer —
So let me be sure that I've got this right... Microsoft decided to sink $300 million into an ad campaign to try to convince people that Vista isn't really the bloated, buggy debacle that everyone knows it to be. In fact, they have even resorted to calling it by another name (Mojave) to make it seem more palatable. As if that weren't bad enough, they decided to drag Jerry Seinfeld down with them in this poorly conceived ad campaign. I will freely acknowledge that I am not a marketing genius, but after viewing their first commercial, even Wile E. Coyote could tell that it ...
10 Horrible Things the Conficker Worm Could Do to Windows
Mac|Life —
It's the worst thing ever! If you listen to 60 Minutes and the rest of the media, the Conficker Worm will eventually bring down the entire internet and introduce 100 years of darkness to the world. In reality, no one knows for sure what the Conficker Worm will actually do once it's been activated on April 1, 2009. There is speculation about zombie machines, and espionage, and the possibility of tearing a hole in the time space continuum. All of those theories are valid, but we just don't know. In order to help our Windows using friends prepare themselves for the worm, we've compiled 10 horrible things the Conficker worm could do to ...
