Computerworld: The making of the Mac
Macworld —
by Ryan Faas , Computerworld Editor's Note: This story is excerpted from Computerworld . For more Mac coverage, visit Computerworld's Macintosh Knowledge Center . In 1977, Apple made a splash on the world stage by introducing the Apple II, one of the world’s first personal computers. In the time between the Apple II’s release and IBM’s introduction of the first IBM PC in 1981, Apple dominated the personal computer industry. However, almost as soon as the Apple II was launched, the company began planning successors for its flagship product, fearing that the Apple II would have a limited lifespan. (These fears wound up being ...
Video: Steve Jobs Giving His First Big Demo
TechCrunch —
Twenty five years ago today, on January 24, 1984, Steve Jobs gave the first on-stage demonstration of the Macintosh computer to a packed auditorium. The technology was much different then, but it was the same Steve Jobs: a masterful showman able to make the latest jumble of electronics seem like it was capable of magic. Enjoy.

Happy 25th Birthday, Mac!
The Unofficial Apple Weblog (TUAW) —
Filed under: Cult of Mac, Apple HistoryAll of the bloggers at TUAW write about Apple and Apple products for one reason: we love Apple products. For most of us, our first Apple was a Mac (although some of us are indeed old enough to have owned the Apple II). 25 years ago today, Steven P. Jobs stood in front of a packed house and had a Macintosh Model M0001 introduce itself to the world: Over the past quarter century, hundreds of millions of people have fallen in love with the Mac. Read on to hear some personal stories about Macs we have known through the ...
Macintosh Still Wisecracking at 25
O'Reilly Media: Mac and iPhone —
Shazam. Today is the Mac's 25 th birthday. Watching this YouTube video of Steve Jobs pulling it out of the bag in 1984, I was amused to see how sound has been part of this computer from the beginning. The speech synthesizer comes in around 2:51. It sounds like FM synthesis; anyone have more details? NPR recently aired another Apple fun-with-audio story, " Playful Pranks from Apple's Founder ...

Over the weekend many sites posted interesting looks back at the history of Apple. Time Magazine posted their Top 10 Apple moments. Read Write Web posted “Mac: 25 Years in Pictures”. Michael Miller recalled the first time that Steve Jobs showed him a Macintosh on his PC Mag blog, and Digg users voted a YouTube video of Steve Jobs demoing the fist Macintosh from 1984 to the home page of the site.
There are actually many more on other Apple sites, so ...
Steve Jobs demos Apple Macintosh, 1984
APPLEians —
Demo of the first Apple Macintosh by Steve Jobs, January 1984, in front of 3000 people. Andy Hertzfeld captured the moment quite well in his retelling: "Pandemonium reigns as the demo completes. Steve has the biggest smile I've ever seen on his face, obviously holding back tears as he is overwhelmed by the moment. The ovation continues for at least five minutes before he quiets the crowd down."

The Newton 2.0
MacBytes.com —
Someone somewhere said that we only have one or two creative ideas in our lives which we continually rewrite, recycle and revise. I suspect this is as true for writers and artists as it is for technology innovators like Steve Jobs. It’s becoming increasingly clear that the new iPad or iTablet, Apple’s touchscreen device rumored to be introduced early next year, is a radically updated version of the Apple Newton ...
