New Verizon ad mocks Apple, AT&T: 'There's a map for that'
AppleInsider —
By Sam Oliver Published: 07:55 AM EST Taking on AT and the iPhone directly, Verizon's latest TV ad mocks Apple's App Store slogan by comparing its nationwide 3G coverage map with its competitor. Apple's iPhone advertisements have famously touted that "There's an app for that," concluding in the end that there is "an app for just about anything." In its latest TV spot, Verizon Wireless parodies Apple's tag line while criticizing the 3G coverage of the next-largest wireless carrier in the U.S., and the exclusive provider of the iPhone, AT "If you want to know why your 3G coverage works so well on Verizon Wireless," the commercial's voiceover says as a Verizon customer ...
Verizon Roshambos AT&T 3G Coverage with “There’s a Map for That!”
The iPhone Blog —
Verizon gave AT&T a Cartman-esque Roshambo last night with their new, mockingly phrased “there’s a map for that” TV commercial, an obvious take off of Apple’s “there’s an app for that” at the expense of AT&T’s smaller 3G coverage footprint.
CDMA has the advantage of covering more territory with fewer towers, though it has some drawbacks too — like no simultaneous voice and data using current implementations. However, we’re not sure how funny a commercial would be showing frustrated Verizon users who’s 3G coverage ...
News: Verizon targets AT&T, Apple with ‘map for that’ ad
iLounge | All Things iPod, iPhone, iTunes and beyond —
image Verizon Wireless has begun airing a new television commercial directly targeting AT&T and Apple’s iPhone. The commercial apes Apple’s “there’s an app for that” iPhone slogan by listing various scenarios and then saying “there’s a map for that,” while displaying the company’s U.S. wireless 3G coverage map. Later in the spot, the announcer states, “if you want to know why some people have spotty 3G coverage, there’s a map for that too,” while showing an iPhone user with AT&T’s considerably less robust 3G coverage map overhead. Verizon and Google's Android: Together at last
Seth H. Weintraub's blog —
If you are looking for weaknesses in the Apple iPhone, no bigger hole in the armor exists than its carrier, the nation's worst, AT&T. Now Google is going where the Palm Pre isn't: Verizon. Verizon is going where AT&T won't go: open* . First of all, the back story. Up until a year ago, Verizon and Google weren't the best of friends. There was that little issue over the 700MHz spectrum that brought nasty letters to the FCC from Google and some legal wrangling by Verizon. What a difference a year makes. The two giants have apparently found some middle ground -- plenty of it, in fact. Today, they had a press conference where they've ...

AT&T brings lawsuit against Verizon over 'Map' ad campaign
AppleInsider —
By Brian Garner Published: 07:00 PM EST AT has filed a lawsuit over Verizon's "There's a Map for That" advertising campaign, claiming Verizon is misrepresenting AT 's coverage areas. The suit seeks a temporary restraining order and a injunction to stop Verizon from "disseminating misleading coverage maps" of AT 's areas of cellular and data coverage. AT is also seeking damages in the suit. The "Map" advertisement displays two competing 3G coverage maps, in which the Verizon coverage area is clearly more widespread than AT 's coverage area. The suit contains an AT commissioned survey of the ads which found that 53 percent of those asked interpreted the ...
AT&T Sees Verizon’s “Map for That”, Raises Lawsuit
The iPhone Blog —
Verizon’s “Map for That” ad was witty and kicked AT&T right where it hurt most — right in the network. AT&T, naturally, didn’t find it so amusing and has now decided to take Verizon to court. Engadget has been covering (and updating the coverage) today, and here’s where it stands:
AT&T complained that the original ad was misleading, saying customers could still use iPhones outside of 3G coverage (on EDGE).
Verizon has apparently already changed the ad once, adding some small print to disclaim the above.
AT&T still ...

AT&T Sues Verizon Over 'Misleading' Ad Campaign
iPhone Hacks —
In the lawsuit filed, AT&T says that the company seeks "only an order prohibiting Verizon from displaying, in the "Bench" advertisement, or in any other advertisement, a map of AT&T's "3G" coverage in which AT&T's non-"3G" coverage areas are depicted by white or blank space, to prevent consumers from being misled by the maps into believing that AT&T offers no wireless service in large parts of the United States". We feel that AT&T's position is understandable. By depicting only the 3G network on the maps, a lot many of the consumers might be led to believe that AT&T does not work outside the marked areas. Apparently, Verizon had already been approached by AT&T over this issue ...
